Brand Design

In-House design for The Dakota

In 2019 I joined The Dakota full time as their Marketing & Communication Designer. This role meant I had to maintain the brand identity across media and platforms doing web, email, social media, & print design. My first act was to update the Brand Identity document and then go through all of the templates to ensure they adhered to that.

The Marketing Team had weekly meetings to discuss events being announced the following week and what needed to be done for them, possible upcoming events, and marking ideas for holidays and other events. Every week saw a repeat of the same processes for new events being announced; gather artist images & links, create an artist/event page, add that to the online calendar, create flyers & posters, craft the weekly "Just Announced" email & schedule it, create & post the "Just Announced" blog post, and create a "page" for the upcoming events presentation on the TV's in the club. In addition to the regular repeating tasks, I was also responsible for other special projects; Gift Card design (including print-ready files for the print company), merchandise displays, seasonal menu updates, and more.

One challenging aspect to this job was making official artist images fit to the many shapes we used, from horizontal or vertical, square or rectangular. It may surprise to find out that even though many of their performers were world-class artists, their official artist images were not really ready to fit all shapes - which meant I had to become adept at extending these images.
